A cabin in the woods is a wonderfully romantic concept, especially for the recording of a pivotal collection of songs. When we gathered family together with a film crew in a home outside of Prince George, BC, that is the element we were looking for, perhaps not romantic, but certainly something special. The album was ultimately titled, Something's On Fire, to reflect the feeling that something was igniting in this creative process. Over-arching the creation of the music was the plan to capture the experience on film. Thanks to Adam, Rob, Eric and Mike from the Agency Media Group (Surrey, BC) the magic was captured and assembled into the web series, "The Making of Something's On Fire". The six episodes (with episode 7 still in the works) capture the experience of family making music together in a unique environment. While my nephew's home was by no means a cabin in the woods, it did serve as a beautiful location to film and record. The web series was launched on You Tube on April 6th, 2016. Tune in to the series on You Tube to follow the experience. You won't be disappointed.
Something’s On Fire, my new CD release, moved from vision to reality in a home outside of Prince George, BC. Family and crew gathered together to record the music that would become Something’s On Fire. I had written the music and lyrics over a number of years, along with new songs, inspired by a vision to share the music with inter-generational family members and engage them in the actual recording process. The songs reflect my northern roots as well as an innate passion for songwriting. The music takes you on a melodic journey through loss (I’ll Be Fine), to hope and love (Love Is Always, Misery).
There was an amazing synergy created by the gathering of family and friends to create this music. This synergy extended outwards as extended family and friends came on board to film the process and create the art work for the CD cover.
To celebrate the release of Something’s On Fire the original family members who played on the recording, will put on a special CD release concert at The Art Space in Prince George. This event will also feature the paintings of Prince George artist, Kyla Morgan, whose painting is featured on the cover of Something’s On Fire. You can continue to follow all of my new releases on Soundcloud.com.
